New Delhi(PTI): To help India increase its skilled workforce, the European Union will provide vocational education and training to marginalised groups in the country.
The European Union has come up with a scheme under which it will provide financial assistance of 500,000 to 1000,000 Euro to groups in India to spend on skill development.
“The objective is to support objectives of skill development in India where majority of the workforce lack the expertise,” Daniele SMADJA, Ambassador and Head of Delegation of the European Commission to India, Bhutan and Nepal, said here on Tuesday.
Speaking at a National Conference on Education, she said proposals are being sought from the civil society organisations in India for this scheme.
At present, two to three million people are getting professional training in India. The 11th Plan envisages increasing this number to 15 million.
The EC scheme will ensure equitable access to training and skill development to the disadvantaged communities and reduce skill mismatch between supply and demand, SMADJA said.
