ALLAHABAD: As per the decided programme, a meeting of representatives of English-medium schools was held at the collectorate presided over by DM

Rajeev Agarwal where the issue of rolling back the hiked fee was discussed at length.

The principals of Jagat Taran and Golden Jubilee School informed that they had reduced the hiked fee from Rs 300 to 115 and the school had also reduced an additional amount of Rs 105 from the fee.

Similarly the head of Maharishi Patanjali and Ganga Gurukulam informed during the meeting that the school had reduced two per cent fees out of the original hike of twenty six per cent in primary and science section and one per cent in other sections. However, there was no hike in fee of Delhi Public school (DPS). Following suit the Ramanujan Public School has also reduced the fee hike.

Sources in the district administration informed that there has been no change in the fee structure of schools in the Jhunsi area while Boys’ High School (BHS) Girls’ High School (GHS) Holy Trinity, St Joseph’s College (SJC), St Mary’s Convent (SMC) would decide on rolling back fees hike after discussions on Thursday.

During the meting the DM laid stress on the fact that schools indulging in commercial activities should compulsorily reduce the fee and it should also be reduced in schools where the number of students was fairly high. This would not hamper the education of children and not put additional burden on the shoulder of parents.

Meanwhile, president of Abhiwawak Ekta Samiti, Vijay Kumar Gupta has accused the Bishop, Anglo Indian Schools of backtracing on the promise of reducing fee citing payment of salaries to teachers as per the recommendation of the Sixth Pay Commission.

The Bishop only exempted the parents from purchasing school books from outside shops and insisted that it was not possible to roll back the entire amount. He also assured that text books would not be changed every year and schools would not be allowed to run private buses apart from the school bus.

The agitated parents later on burnt an effigy of the Bishop and raised slogans against him.
