Ill-qualified teachers, cancelled Paris trip anger DU students

Delhi University’s M. Tech Nuclear Science students, who were anticipating a year in Paris as part of their course and expecting a Rs.3,000-monthly stipend for the remaining two years, have nothing to look forward to now. The students say they have ill-qualified teachers from correspondence and undergraduate colleges, and have to share laboratories with students from other batches.

Maharashtra may grade varsities to improve education quality

The state has 20 major universities but none of them is currently graded on performance. "We are severely lacking in innovation and the quality of education in our universities is poor, compared to international standards. One way of improving is to grade them on the basis of certain parameters. Going into the future, we don't want to churn out just students instead of a knowledgeable bunch of students," said a senior official.

CBSE stresses on heritage education, to hold workshop

Speaking on the occasion of Teachers' Day, Mukherjee said: "There was a time when we had renowned seats of learning like Takshashila, Nalanda, Vikramshila, Valabhi, Somapura and Odantapuri." "They attracted scholars from far and wide. The powerful minds who taught at such universities created an exalted position for our ancient education system. We have to regain our leadership position. We look towards teachers to guide the way," he said.
