Home > Campaign Update > Rajasthan October- November 2008Street Theatre advocacy for School ChoiceSchool Choice Campaign and Art Venture jointly organised a public communication campaign to disseminate the idea of School Choice through the medium of Street Theatre (in the regional languages) in Rajasthan in 2008. The Rajasthan government had earlier in 2008 announced two pro School Choice schemes ('Gyanodaya' and 'Shikshak ka Apna Vidyalaya') encapsulating ideas such as public private partnership and school vouchers. The mass awareness program through the medium of street theatre was thereby rightly timed to make an impression about school choice ideas. The theatre performances were carried out in 13 districts - Jaipur, Kota , Udaipur , Alwar, Ajmer , Jodhpur , Chittorgarh, Pali, Bharatpur, Tonk, Bundi, Dausa and Bhilwara. The mass campaign drive was successful in reaching out to over 3 million people in Rajasthan. In each district 15 plays were performed covering 8 rural areas and 7 urban city areas. These performances were completed within two and a half months period starting from October 2008. A School Choice advocacy film based on the street theatre performances is being made by filmmakers Nandan and Kavita, who are recipients of 2008 Jeevika awards. The project has gained extensive regional media coverage, which will be capitalized on to execute our new strategy of engaging grassroots level political representatives such as the panchayat leaders for the success of the campaign.
